Honda NSX By ilikewaffles11 |
The old Acura NSX was somewhat inexpensive for what you were getting, practical, fun to drive, and simple. The new Acura NSX is NONE OF THOSE. An original NSX started at 79,500 dollars. This new one starts at 156,000 dollars. That sounds significantly more expensive that the old one. This pricing is not competitive at all. The Chevrolet Corvette Z06 starts at around 80,000 dollars and it has 650 horsepower. The Nissan GTR, also know as Godzilla, starts at around 110,000 dollars. The Porsche 911 GT3, built for corners and the track, starts at around 144,000 dollars. The Mercedes Benz AMG GT S, a comfortable supercar that can throw corners, starts at 131,000 dollars. The Dodge Challenger Demon starts at 85,000 dollars and has 840 horsepower. It will smoke the NSX in a quarter mile any day. All of the choices mentioned earlier are practical, cheaper than the Acura NSX, and are fun to drive.

One of the biggest problems of the new NSX is that nobody ever asked for any fancy technology. They just wanted the good old driving thrills of the original NSX. They expected a regular gasoline RWD powertrain paired with a manual transmission, not some fancy schmancy all wheel drive hybrid powertrain system. This ruins driving. They have all these assists going that it isn't real driving anymore. The original NSX was just car and driver (no pun intended). The new NSX is is an engineering masterpiece, but it isn't a true NSX. This was built so some rich fool could buy one and drive it without going off a cliff. It's not like any rich fool would buy an Acura either. They would buy a Nissan GTR or a Lamborghini. Why would they opt for some Acura?

Practicality doesn't seem to be the new NSX's strong suit. There are clip on cupholders instead of real cupholders. The trunk space is absolutely tiny. It is easily outmatched by a Corvette, which is much cheaper, much more practical, and much better. It is far too expensive. It isn't as fun as the original NSX, which is probably the biggest disappointment of all.

The original NSX was Honda's piece of the pie in the 90s JDM shootout with the R34 Nissan GTR, Mazda RX7, and the Toyota Supra. Toyota better take the the NSX as a lesson when developing the new Supra. Give the fans what they want.
Luckily for Acura, I have a step by step plan to fix this massive failure.
1. Don't label this NSX an NSX; label it something else because this isn't what the fans want or get rid of the car entirely
2. Figure out what the fans what: good value, practical, fun to drive
3. Build it and do it right
